Fresh Look at an Old Favorite:

Long-time Folkwear pattern user Caryl came across three brand new, but shopworn, copies of #251 Varsity Jacket at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Austin, Texas, in March of last year. She bought them and then got together with two friends and came up with their own Design Challenge: to creatively interpret the pattern and have a finished jacket by December for their annual Christmas gift exchange dinner. Shown here is Caryl's very fresh vision for the pattern, made from a gift of metallic brocade designer fabric from Paris. She dyed and printed silk organza for the sleeves, and bound the neckline and cuff edges in brocade. She says, "The turn-back lapels with button loop closure give a whole new look to the Varsity jacket." See the Photo Gallery for her two friends' interpretations of the pattern, and then visit What's New for details about Folkwear's 2010 Design Challenge.
