Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc on Western NC on Sept 27, 2024. I have never seen such catastrophic devastation in my life. Flooding happened so quickly and with such ferocity -- it was all unimaginable. The amount of destruction was literally unbelievable. Everyone here is still trying to comprehend it.
If you feel so moved, donations can be made to the following fabulous organizations that are helping in WNC:
Buncombe County School Foundation Helene Recovery Fund (for families of students in our schools -- so many people lost their homes, livelihoods, and vehicles).
Asheville River Arts District Relief Fund. This area was particularly hard hit, full of artists, and right next to Folkwear.
Local Cloth. A nonprofit that lost their entire space and everything in it. Also just down the road from Folkwear.
World Central Kitchen (worked making and serving hot meals all over the area for weeks)
