Misses 6-20; Men's 32-46.
This pattern offers three shirts typical of the late 19th century Ukraine and Russia. They highlight the beautiful traditional embroidery of the region. They were historically worn by peasants and nobility alike and are preserved and worn on festive occasions today. All three are narrower than many other shirts from this region and each has a high snug collar, a lined shoulder area, and narrow side panels.
View A is the simplest version it is a typical straight sleeved Ukrainian shirt with its center front opening facings turned to the outside. It closes with hooks and eyes, and has instructions for traditional twisted thread ties as well.
View B is from North Central Ukraine and features an overlap side closing. The sleeves are gathered into narrow cuffs. Instructions for hook and eye closures as well as traditional button and loop closures are provided for cuffs and collar.
View C features an off-center side placket which is a more traditionally Russian feature. It's folded construction conceals a buttoned closing. The sleeves are the same as View A's straight sleeve.
These popular shirts reflect a merging of European and Central Asian traditions, and can easily be lengthened for versatile dress or robe styles. These shirts have historically been a great canvas for traditional embroidery. The pattern provides history, lore, and embroidery designs.
Suggested fabrics: Light or medium-weight soft fabrics such as cotton, broadcloth, linen, chambray, muslin, rayon challis, lightweight wool, or silk.
