This Passionflower baby doll top is inspired by the sassy and sweet vintage lingerie of the mid-1900s. This sewing pattern features an empire waist, circle skirt, and triple-darted bodice. The pattern is sized XS-4XL with three cup sizes for each size (B, C, and D). The full, above-knee skirt has an open front and drapes beautifully to a slightly lower length in the back. Instructions for optional lace applique and lace insertion are included. This is, of course, perfect as a nightgown or sleepwear, but it also makes a cute top to wear out over jeans, leggings, or shorts!
This rendition of the nighttime lingerie dress is inspired by the baby doll gowns made in the 1940’s by American lingerie designer Sylvia Pedlar. Due to the fabric shortages in World War II, Pedlar took it upon herself to reinvent nighttime wear, cutting skirts short for a more varied, fun, and seductive look. One could say the evolution of nighttime wear has allowed more female empowerment and representation in domestic environments.
This is the first of a few vintage lingerie styles that Folkwear is releasing.
Suggested fabrics: Lightweight or medium-weight cotton, cotton gauze, linen and blends, voile, batiste, Swiss dot, rayon challis, silk, charmeuse, and very lightweight silk velvet with drape.
